New Mobile App from Securus Technologies Connects Inmates with loved Ones

Securus launched a mobile application that allows inmates to communicate with their loved ones using video call technology. The program is dubbed inmate video phone calls and is available for android smartphones, tablets as well as products from Apple including iPhones, iPods and iPads. A PR Newswire review find this application to be fascinating, ingenious and innovative because it offers incarcerated inmates an online platform that allows an easy way to have an interactive visit with their families, friends and any other acquaintances.
Market Reception

I find the introduction of video visitation to the rigid environment in prisons and jails highly innovative. The free mobile application can easily be downloaded from the App Store for Apple products. Androids smartphones users can download the application on Google Play. Since the launch of the visitation app for android operating systems (six months ago), there have been over 60,000 downloads. The Apple devices’ version received 5,000 downloads in a span of one week.

What is amazing is that the new vimeo visitation application eliminates the use of web cameras, tethered computers or other additional hardware. Mobile users can simply use their Apple or Android devices provided they have access to Wi-Fi or cellular service. I agree with Robert’s sentiments that the remote visitation app allows families to enjoy special occasions with their incarcerated loved ones especially when traveling to the prison is inconvenient or when simple phone calls are not enough.

Securus Technologies provides criminal justice solutions that ensure public safety. It also supports criminal investigations, monitoring and corrections. It serves as many as 3,400 public safety organizations, correctional facilities and law enforcement agencies. In addition, it serves an incredible 1.2 million inmates. The company provides services like emergency response, youtube video streams, incident management, inmate self-service, investigation, information management, monitoring, biometric analysis and public information. It focuses on offering innovative products to retain its market edge in the industry.

Blizzard’s ‘Overwatch’ Set to Make a Splashy Debut

Blizzard Entertainment is going all out for the upcoming release of its long-awaited multiplayer first-person shooter game, “Overwatch.”

They’ve released a series of animated shorts on the official “Overwatch” YouTube channel. These quick videos, which feature playable heroes from the game, have quickly racked up millions of views. Blizzard also created a big splash by displaying gigantic “Overwatch” statues in cities around the globe. These 15-feet tall statues, which were created to look like action figures still in the packaging, turned up in such diverse places as Hollywood, California and Paris, France. One showed up in Busan, South Korea.

If that’s not attention-getting enough, the game is getting some prime-time attention from none other than Conan O’Brien. The host has announced that he’ll play “Overwatch” on his regular segment, “Clueless Gamer.” Joining him will be “Game of Thrones” actors Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage.

“Overwatch” marks a departure for Blizzard. This is the company’s first foray into the first-person shooter genre. Their clever marketing campaign, along with the open beta, which amassed more than nine million players, has built a lot of hype for the game. It’ll be clear whether or not it meets the hype soon enough — “Overwatch” will be available to play in the United States beginning on May 23.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Setting Dislike Records

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is becoming one of the most controversial video games of all time. The trailer of the game is now the second most downvoted video on all of youtube, falling behind only Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” The fact that this has been accomplished in just a few weeks has astonished many and caused some to think that bots might be at work.

The fact is that Call of Duty fans are not happy with the direction the franchise is heading, and they haven’t been for a long time. The main problem seems to be a breakdown in communication between the developers and the consumers.

Fans have been vocal in previous years about wanting another Call of Duty set during World War 2. It has been about 5 years since any first person shooter was set during that war.

This desire has grown in part because virtually all of the major FPS franchises have been focusing on modern and future settings since 2011. In fact, the last five Call of Duty games have all been set in the same futuristic settings and fans have been vocal about how they feel that the game doesn’t change enough from year to year.

The older Call of Duty games were realistic and gritty. The newer ones are brightly colored and feature soldiers armed with what look like super-soakers. This new trailer was apparently the breaking point for the fans and now the franchise has something of a crisis on its hands.

The Reasoning for Removing Star Wars Battlefront’s Campaign

Now we know why Star Was Battlefront had no campaign mode.

Star Wars Battlefront was one of the most highly anticipated games coming out during the tail end of 2015. With it being Star Wars, naturally this would be a huge boost in sales in addition to its popularity.

However, upon the release of Star Wars Battlefront there was some mixed reception and criticism among gamers, both diehard fans and casual ones, that criticism being the lack of a single player campaign in the game. As of this past week, the reasoning for this decision was revealed, and it was a “conscious decision” by Electronic Arts (EA) to release the game in time for the release of “The Force Awakens” in theaters.

When asked about this decision, EA Studios boss Patrick Söderlund stated that it was a very big criticism towards the game and it was pushed aside solely to intertwine with the release of the movie, in the hopes that it would have the strongest impact on the gaming world. DICE, the developer for Battlefront, added that the game was geared towards being a multiplayer game above everything else, allowing for multiplayer games across the Original Trilogy of movies.

The lack of single player did not go unnoticed, and Soderlund mentioned how the company learned from this experience and even indicated the next installment of Battlefront, which would be due out next year, would have a single player campaign included in it, after being criticized for a lack of depth.

Fake Casino Games Exposed

NetEnt is among the industry leaders when it comes to games for online and mobile casinos. The company provides online slots as well as various card and table games including poker, baccarat, blackjack, and craps.

Online casinos can team up directly with NetEnt to power their gaming betting sites. Not long ago, as reports, several companies- including Affpower, Conan Gaming Limited and Game Tech Group- were accused of using fake games stolen from NetEnt.

Several disparities in these games were found. For example, some slots were connected to jackpots, but the payouts weren’t as high as with the real NetEnt games. Such piracy not only destroys industry reputation but also deprives the players of their due winnings.

NetEnt is a Swedish company which was founded back in 1996. Currently, the company employs 700 people. In 2015, over 8 billion transactions were handled through its systems.

Online and mobile gambling has become quite popular in recent years. It has also been restricted in some places including the United States and many Asian countries.

Canadian Priests Gambles Away Refugee Funds

Here’s a weird one a bit different than most of the articles you’ll find here: The police in Canada is currently investigating a Catholic priest over embezzlement of 500,000 Canadian dollars ($380,000). Father Amer Saka, a priest from London, Ontario has allegedly gambled these funds away as The Guardian reports.

These funds were meant for the Iraqi refugees’ settlement in Canada. The incident was reported to the police by the church officials. The priest is currently suspended, pending further investigation.

This particular sum of money was given directly to this priest by the members of the parish. The funds were intended to help bring their families to Canada. It is possible to bring immigrants to Canada under private sponsorship of which this is an example.

The priest wasn’t arrested, though. He was taken to the Southdown Institute, which is a place specifically for priests who have either mental issues or problems with addiction.

The Chaldean Catholic church, where the incident took place, represents the interests of the Middle Eastern migrants from such countries as Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. So far, this parish has brought 11 migrants to Canada, and is approved to bring 45 more. What will happen at this point isn’t sure, and it’s not clear whether the families will give this church more money to bring their families to Canada.

‘World of Warcraft’ Expansions Now Free

With Blizzard’s latest “World of Warcraft” expansion, “Legion,” set to be released on August 30, the company has made all previous expansions part of the base game. This includes “The Burning Crusade,” “Wrath of the Lich King,” “Cataclysm,” “Mists of Pandaria” and “Warlords of Draenor.” This means the retail price will be less than 20 dollars for all expansions and the base game, plus the cost of a subscription.

The upcoming “Warcraft” movie offers another bonus for new and old fans. Movie-goers who attend a screening of the film at a Regal Cinemas theater will receive a giveaway that includes every current “World of Warcraft” expansion, as well as a free month of game time. While current players can’t use the game time on their primary account, they can use it to start a second account or they can donate it to a friend.

In addition, players who log on between May 25 and August 1 will receive special in-game cosmetic items that change the way their gear and weapons look.

The film, starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell and Dominic Cooper, will hit the big screen on June 10. If that doesn’t satisfy your taste for all things “Warcraft,” Simon & Schuster is releasing “World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook.” The book, from Chelsea Monroe-Cassel, aims to figure out real-world equivalents to the in-game food. It’s due for release in October.

Corporate Structures Need Compliance Officers

Up to a few decades ago almost no one had ever heard of a corporate compliance officer. These days many corporate structures would be in serious trouble without the services of these trusted corporate professionals. Times have changed. Society has become a lot more litigious, the environment is a lot more fragile, and people are more aware of the dangers unchecked corporate action can cause. This has given rise to more local, regional, and national laws and regulations and the need for someone working within the company to ensure it is playing by the rules. That person is the corporate compliance officer.

Compliance officers are crucial to many corporations. Not long ago it was only defense contractors, medical research companies, and a few other industries which required compliance officers. Today almost every company has one. Compliance officers are valuable because they are keenly aware of the laws governing the industries in which they work and have the training and knowledge to provide the guidance their company needs to keep it from inadvertently hurting consumers, the public, or the environment, or running afoul of the law. Compliance officers create and monitor policies and practices designed to keep workers and consumers safe and the lawmakers satisfied.

One example of an excellent compliance officer is Helane Morrison. Known for her integrity and willingness to fight injustice, Morrison has a solid background in law. She was a practicing lawyer with the California based Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin law firm. Morrison worked with them for 10 years, 5 of them as a partner with the firm. Her next career move made her even better prepared to work as a corporate compliance officer. Morrison took a position with the SEC San Francisco office. Her job was to identify and prosecute companies involved in fraud and other corporate wrong doing. She held that position for 11 years.

After 11 years with the SEC, Morrison accept the position as Chief Compliance Officer for Hall Capital Partners, a financial services company in California. Trained to sniff out crime and identify crooked practices, Morrison now dedicates her time and talent to ensuring her company toes the line and doesn’t violate the law or mishandle customers inadvertently or otherwise. Helane Morisson, like all other compliance officers, serves a much needed role. They protect the public and their companies by ensuring they follow the spirit and letter of the law.
