Injustice 2: Announcement Trailer

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given Warner Bros. renewed focus on the Justice League in the years since the first “Injustice” videogame was released, a sequel was recently announced with a moody little teaser trailer.
With a voice-over from Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston (here reportedly playing Lex Luthor), we get to see the major heroes of the DC universe finding yet another reason to fight one another.
This time, there is apparently an emphasis on personalizing each of your characters as you progress through the game. With a variety of armor options, it would seem that developers Netherrealm Studios are seeking to integrate buffs and gameplay variables more organically into the base game.
The first “Injustice” game, as well as subsequent “Mortal Kombat” entries provide some context for their approach here. Adding modifiers to match types and characters has been a part of fighting games for over two decades, but online play has opened up far greater options for engaging players. Tying these modifiers to unique “gear” is a great way to provide players an extra sense of ownership over their avatar, while genuinely expanding the possibilities of each match.
True, this will undoubtedly be a difficult balancing task, and there are certain combinations that will inevitably stand out to players. However, this is one area where Netherrealm has shown particular skill in recent years.
The fighting game community was, to put it kindly, reluctant to see much value in the original “Injustice.” Same with “Mortal Kombat 9.” And yet, the developers have adapted their wealth of experience to this new age of gaming in a way that even strict fanatics have come to respect and enjoy. It’s encouraging to see that evolution given such literal weight in this new trailer.
“Injustice 2: Subtitle Pending” will be released in 2017.
