Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are two of the most charity minded residents in Arizona. They are the owners of The Frontera Fund, a wide-reaching charitable fundraiser. They work with organizations like the ACLU of Arizona, Promise Arizona, and the Arizona DREAM act Coalition. These organizations take a different approach to the same issue: migrant rights.
The Frontera Fund began after Lscey and Larkin’s run in with Joe Arpaio, a man who, as Sheriff of Maricopa County, abused Latinos in Arizona for almost 24 years.
About Promise Arizona
Promise Arizona, which is support by The Frontera Fund, is a faith-based charity. Promise Arizona was directly involved in Arpaio’s legal battles, organizing events in Arizona and Washington, D.C.
Petra Falcon is the executive director of Promise Arizona. He was arrested in 2013 for blocking a street during a protest concerning immigration reform. Promise America is also known as Paz, meaning peace in Spanish.
About the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition
With the controversy surrounding DREAMERs, the people who were brought to America illegally as children need someone to stick up for them. This organization is currently advocating for lower college tuition rates, immigrant rights, and civil rights.
About the ACLU of Arizona
The ACLU is one of the most well-known names in altruism in the entire United States. This organization is controversial among conservative citizens because of their progressively-oriented goals.
The ACLU of Arizona was founded in 1959, and in less than a year a law that banned multi-racial marriages had been stricken from the books. The ACLU is also partnered with The Frontera Fund, but as anyone familiar with the ACLU already knows, the ACLU can operate on its own funds. The Frontera Fund and the ACLU are similarly oriented, so it makes sense that the partnership exists.
The ACLU was also involved in the civil case that resulted in officers being required to read Miranda Rights.
About Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin
Michael and Jim are the former owners of the Phoenix New Times and currently own Front Page Confidential. As newspapermen, they work to expose corrupt politicians to public eye; as philanthropists they work to expand on migrant rights.
Their primary targets are corrupt Republicans like Joe Arpaio. Both The Frontera Fund and Front Page Confidential were founded in order to combat the destruction caused by Joe Arpaio during his time as Sheriff of Maricopa County.
With The Frontera Fund and dozens of supported charities, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are working to better the lives of countless people.
