PUBG Is Suing Epic Games For Plagiarism

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is suing Fortnight for copying elements of its game. The legal action taken in Korea was just released, but the lawsuit happened back in January. Bluehole’s PubG, the creator of PubG claims that Epic Games the creators of Fortnight have plagiarized 11 concepts of their game. The items in question include weapons, map relay system, and health system. The lawsuit is only in Korea, but what happens here could affect the game around the world.

 

 

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds or Pubg is a multiplayer battle royal game that released on March 23, 2017. In this game, people parachute to an island where they search for weapons and supplies while killing each other. The game inspired by Japan’s Battle Royale a film about a group of students who the government forces to fight each other. The game was a hit when at its release selling over 3 million by the end of 2017. It’s success lead to it moving to other platforms including Xbox One and mobile.

 

 

Fortnight is a co-op sandbox survival game released in July 2017. In Fortnight a mysterious storm appears wiping out part of the population and causing zombies to appear. The game is a cross between Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. In September 2017 they added a battle royale mode. The game also starts off with people parachuting to an island where they search for weapons. In Fortnight the players can also gather supplies to build defenses. The Battle Royale Mod is free to play while the story cost money. Battle Royale is what most players play. Fortnight was also a hit when released selling more than 500,000 copies in 2017. It has moved to other platforms as well including Xbox one, ps4, and mobile.

 

Fortnight has become a sensation becoming the most streamed game on Twitch. They surpassed PubGs recorded on mid-January 2018. Fortnight has also beat PubG on another record. Fortnight reached 3.4 million concurrent players beating PubGs current record of 3.2 million. Fortnight’s numbers are still on the rise, while Playerunknown’s have been slowly declining.
