Gwent: New Game Mode Announced

If you are a fan of The Witcher 3 you probably spent dozens of hours running around the game world playing Gwent and collecting cards from NPCs. CD Projekt Red, the developers of The Witcher 3, have taken the Gwent minigame from The Witcher 3 and created a real collectible card game with it, which you can download for free on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

The game has some major differences from the version you played in The Witcher 3, but many of your favorite cards have transferred over to the online version. You’ll find the entire cast of characters that inhabit The Witcher universe as well as item cards such as decoy and weather cards.

If you have never played an online collectible card game before, let me say, this is an excellent place to start. Gwent is the most generous in the entire genre when it comes to giving you free cards and even though there are tons of options available if you’d like to spend your hard earned cash on digital cards, you never feel required to do so.

Today, CD Projekt Red announced Gwent Arena, the all new gauntlet style game-mode. In this mode you will have every card available at your disposable to build the best deck possible to try and defeat Gaunter O’Dimm in a unique single player experience.

It will cost you 150 ore each time you make a run through the Arena and you are guaranteed at least one Keg(booster pack) every time you play. Considering a keg normally costs 100 ore to begin with, it will be no surprise that when Arena launches it becomes to go to way to spend ore and gain new cards.

Gwent Arena was not the only announcement to come today. A brand new Faction Challenge pits the community against one another after they’ve each picked a side. The mode pits the viking like Kingdom of Skellige against the Scoia’tael, the games unique name for elves.
