There is an honest debate about whether Skyrim is the most successful video game of all time. It has seen remaster after remaster on every console that has came out since 2011 and each one releases to incredible sales. The newest edition was released on the Nintendo Switch and brought Skyrim to a mobile platform.
So it makes sense that Skyrim game developer Bethesda says it is working on two more games before it will even consider a sequel. Why release Elder Scrolls 6 when people are still buying and enjoying Elder Scrolls 5?
Pete Hines confirmed on twitter when questioned by a fan. Hines provided the eager fan with an article explaining the reason for the absence of any information on Elder Scrolls 6, no one has worked on an Elder Scrolls game since the DLC for Skyrim(excluding remasters.)
Hines went on to explain, “We’re not talking about things like a Fallout Shelter kind of project but, like, big multiplatform release like you expect,” after explaining “I tried to manage expectations for folks, you know the kind of games they make, they take a while.” Could Hines be hinting at a brand new open world game similar to Fallout and Skyrim?
The two new games that Bethesda game studios are working on are both confirmed to be released sometime in 2018, so the good news is we could hear an announcement that production of Elder Scrolls 6 has begun sometime later this year as well.
Due to Bethesda’s methods when it came to releasing Fallout 4, some fans believe this could all be a lie and Elder Scrolls 6 could be announced surprisingly and suddenly with an immediate release date. Fallout 4 was announced in June of 2015 and went on to be released only five months later for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Pc. If they are applying the same secretive methods of development for Elder Scrolls 6, it is reasonable to assume that they could be lying about the game not being in production.
Bethesda has really set themselves up here. No matter how much they tell their fans the sequel to Skyrim is not in production, fans won’t believe them.
