Ghostbusters Video Game Released in July

Fans who are anticipating the July 15 premiere of the Ghostbusters movie remake won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on the new Ghostbusters video game. Game-maker Activision has announced that the game is scheduled to be released on July 12, three days before the new movie that stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.

The new game is described by Polygon to be similar to the 2011 game titled Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. While the new game is also a multi-player action game, the one that comes out July 12 will feature a completely different cast of characters.

Although the game’s release coincides with the movie premiere date, don’t get your heart set on seeing a video game version of Melissa McCarthy. The new game characters are not based on the new movie or the old one.

Fans of the original 1984 film Ghostbusters fondly recall that the movie starred Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. The 1984 movie starred a predominately male cast with the four main Ghostbuster characters played by Murray, Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis. Although Sigourney Weaver also appeared in the movie, she was the victim of ghosts rather than one of the guys busting them.

Conversely, the 2016 movie features an all female cast led by McCarthy, Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

The new video game features a mix of male and female characters. Gamespot describes the game as “a top-down, co-op game with a cartoon visual style.”
