Netflix Releases Side-scrolling Game Based on Original Shows

If you love Netflix and side-scrolling video games, you will love Netflix’s new side-scrolling video game, simply and somewhat unofficially titled Netflix Infinite Runner. It is also being referred to as Flixarcade. This game is certainly a fun, semi-nostaglic throwback to the side-scrolling video games based on popular TV shows that came out in the 1980’s and 90’s. Think Super Mario but with characters from your favorite Netflix original shows.

This infinite runner game allows you to play as various 8-bit characters from Netflix original shows, including Piper Chapman from Orange is the New Black and Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things. The theme music and backgrounds all come from the four featured Netflix original shows (Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, Marco Polo, and Narcos).

To play the game, you have to collect power-ups and jump over obstacles that change based on the Netflix show. For example, if you are playing as Piper Chapman, you have to watch out for prison guard “Pornstache” Mendez as he throws handcuffs at you. If you tap the spacebar twice, you can jump higher. Since this is an infinite runner, you can play this game for as long as you want and can quit at any time.

It is uncertain at this point whether or not Netflix will make the jump into full-fledged video game production. Given the popularity of their original shows and licensing contract with Marvel, it seems like anything is possible.
