Shadow of the Colossus is a Huge Success

Sony’s Playstation 4 continues to remain dominant in the world of home console gaming. The console’s newest exclusive release has already received universal praise from critics and fans, as well as sales figures that blew the developers expectations out of the water.

Shadow of the Colossus was originally released on the Playstation 2 console in the early 2000s. The game released to generally positive reviews but fans of the game believe it never got the attention it deserved.

You play a young and clumsy child in the game and with almost no background information before-hand, you are dropped into a vast open world map littered with gigantic beasts just waiting to be slayed. At first glance you may think the controls are clunky and unresponsive, but you couldn’t be more wrong. The “clunkiness” you feel, you soon learn is a very intriguing aspect of the game and adds realism to the fact that you are playing as a small child who most certainly isn’t skilled in combat.

Once you understand the reasoning for the strange control system, its easy to imagine yourself as the child you are controlling. The constant danger of falling off of one of these beast you are tasked with taking down adds to the suspense and drama of the game-play. All of these elements create the experience that long-time fans of the series love.

The launch sales of the graphically updated Playstation 4 version have obliterated the sales of the ps2 version. The game’s 73% increase in sales from its playstation 2 predecessor had resulted in the game landing a-top UK’s video game charge.

Ico and The Last Guardian, two other games made by game developing studio Team ICO, both revolve around the same feeling of helplessness and constant danger that makes this franchise one of the most rewarding experiences in all of gaming. Team ICO should be proud that their 12 year old game is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
