The Last Guardian is Finally Here…Almost

In 2009 it was announced that The Last Guardian would be launching as a follow up to Shadow of Colossus and Ico, both popular games on the PlayStation 2 gaming console at the time. After years of anticipation, The Last Guardian will finally be released on PlayStation 4 this December.

The premise of the highly anticipated game is centered around a young boy who is navigating the mystical world that he lives in alongside a hybrid mythological companion. Together they escape danger from those who are out to capture them. Fans of Shadow of Colossus and Ico are hoping that the game will live up to expectations. As a barrage of different games and gaming consoles have come and gone since 2007 when those two games were widely popular.

The boy in the game is controlled by the player. The player must navigate though the environment in order to avoid being captured by the guards, while he is unarmed. The game ends for the player if the boy is captured and the player is unable to free him from his captivity. In addition to looking out for himself, the boy must also care for Trico, his beloved companion throughout this interactive third person perspective adventure. This game is also a mixture of puzzle and action adventure.

The Last Guardian has been in development since 2007. The game was initially set for release onto the PlayStation 3 game console, but with this 2016 release, the effects and development have only seen improvements. The game is set to be released on December 6th.

Fumito Ueda, the creator of this trilogy, has taken his time developing The Last Guardian. Seeing the rise and fall of other games in the market for the past nine years, led to extensive research on Ueda’s behalf. Along with the team at GenDesign, Ueda has sought to design not only a game that people would love but also a promotional strategy that will draw them in.
